differentiation Strategies that work
No two students are alike in their abilities, interests and learning needs. While it can seem overwhelming to try to meet the learning needs of vastly different students, it is possible to differentiate learning without excessive planning and preparation. This course explores highly effective strategies teachers can embed into their planning to ensure learning and assessment tasks are differentiated to meet the needs of all students. The focus of this course is helping teachers to develop instructional approaches that can be seamlessly incorporated throughout the whole of the learning process to ensure all students reach their full potential.about this course

Course Details
We begin with a brief look at why it is important that teachers provide differentiation, particularly exploring the idea of ‘student variability’ and its impact on both teaching and learning.
We then discuss what differentiation is and what it isn’t. This section draws on the work of prominent researchers in the field to explore the ‘do’s and don’t’s’ of differentiation in the classroom.
Through looking at some common approaches to differentiating teaching and learning in the classroom, we then analyse two assumptions that often underpin teachers’ discourse on differentiation.
After lunch, we unpack Universal Design for Learning and its use in providing differentiation in the classroom.
The day concludes with a deep look at each of the three core aspects of UDL, with suggestions on novel approaches to guiding student learning.
